WREXHAM
Match report
Wrexham had eight shots at the Swansea.com Stadium and Swansea City had six, and six of Wrexham's came from inside the penalty area against three for the home side. Callum O'Hare, on his Wrexham debut, was blocked out after Danny Imray crossed low on 28 minutes, then took Sam Smith's header down onto his right foot five minutes after the restart and shot low and just wide across goal. Matty James caught the Swansea defence with a quick free kick on 70 and Max Cleworth could not steer his dragged cross-shot goalwards at the back post. Swansea City's best openings fell to Melker Widell on 34, picked out in the box by Josh Tymon and Jisung Eom, the volley not cleanly hit and blocked by Callum Doyle; to Moussa Yeo, who just failed to reach an inviting cross at the end of a sweeping second-half attack; and to Zan Vipotnik, who fired straight at Anthony Patterson on 81.
Phil Parkinson rotated for the second of Wrexham's four games in ten days. Danny Imray, Ryan Longman, Ollie Rathbone and Sam Smith all came back into the starting line-up, and Callum O'Hare lined up for his debut. Swansea City made three changes from the win over Watford: Jay Fulton returned to captain the hosts, and Melker Widell and Moussa Yeo were handed starts. Wrexham were content to sit deep, soak up the pressure and break, and finished the game without a single booking. Swansea City collected three, all for fouls: Joseph Opoku on 67, Ben Cabango on 77 and Stephen Welsh on 88. Anthony Patterson saved comfortably when Josh Tymon's low cross deflected off Matty James on 37 and held Vipotnik's shot late, and at the other end Lawrence Vigouroux saved a Kieffer Moore effort from range in stoppage time.
Phil Parkinson, the Wrexham manager, gave his verdict to his own club afterwards. "The boys were absolutely brilliant," he said, and thought the chances backed him up. "We've had the better chances to win the game. I thought we grew into it and got better and better as the game went. We had some key moments where we didn't quite take the chances, but we've put in an enormous effort tonight and the lads have got to be very proud of that." On the debutant: "Callum O'Hare is always there in the box in those moments and he was unlucky not to take his chance." Parkinson also had the December 2025 visit to Swansea in mind, a 2-1 defeat. "Last year's game here hurt us a lot, but we've come here tonight and stood strong as a team."
Vitor Matos took the clean sheet and the missing goal in the same breath. "I'm really happy with the clean sheet. We competed really well and we wanted to win, but unfortunately we couldn't score in the last third in the way we wanted," the Swansea City head coach told his own club. He set the point against the standard he wants rather than the table: "We need to keep on putting in performances we can be proud of and be closer to winning games." Matos told Sky Sports the pitch had a hand in it: "It was quite heavy so it was hard to keep the quality and speed we wanted." Swansea City have now conceded once in five games, won three of the five and have not lost a league match this season.
Josh Key, making a third consecutive start at right back, put the point where the table does not. "It's nice to see we're still top of the table, but I think we're slightly disappointed with a point," he told Swansea City's own media on Sunday. He made the clean sheet a whole-team figure rather than a defensive one. "If you want to do well in this league you've got to keep clean sheets. They are really important for us. The defenders will get the credit but that's down to the whole team. Everyone has done their job and tracked back well." Key expects the same problem again: "We know teams are going to come here and set up similar to how Wrexham played, but we defended the box well and attacked well at times." Swansea City go to Southampton on Tuesday, and Key asked for the away support. "Our away fans are some of the best. We're always hearing them and we need them again on Tuesday."
Callum O'Hare, whose miss five minutes after the restart was Wrexham's clearest, spoke to Wrexham's own media the same night. "I probably should've had a goal. I'm always going to be there to get the chances, so hopefully that will come," O'Hare said. "As a team we dug in well, and I feel like we probably had the better of the chances in the end."
Swansea City stay top on 11 points from five games and the single goal conceded is the fewest in the division by three, with QPR and Wrexham next on four. Swansea City and Birmingham City are the division's only unbeaten clubs after five games, and Swansea City are the only one of the two with three wins. Wrexham stay 11th on six points, and the four goals Wrexham have conceded are the joint second-fewest, level with QPR. Swansea City took 61 per cent of the ball and drew three saves out of Anthony Patterson; Wrexham drew one out of Lawrence Vigouroux and left with a second away clean sheet in three days, after Wednesday's win at Millwall. Both clubs are out again on Tuesday, Swansea City at Southampton and Wrexham at home to Burnley. Swansea City then take Burnley at home on 12 September, Lincoln away on 19 September and Norwich at home on 10 October; Wrexham go to West Ham on 11 September, host Southampton on 19 September and travel to Derby on 10 October.
Correction, 6 September 2026: this report said Wrexham's clean sheet was a second in five days. Millwall was the Wednesday and this the Saturday, three days, as Wrexham's own report and Phil Parkinson both put it.
Correction, 7 September 2026: Wrexham stay 11th, not 10th, after Birmingham City played on the Sunday. Birmingham City have conceded six, not four, and have now played five, so Birmingham City and Swansea City are the division's two unbeaten clubs.

Swansea City club match report, the XI, the substitutions, the referee and the attendance, published and read 5 September 2026 at 23:58 BST. Wrexham AFC club match report by Colin Henrys, the away XI, the chances at both ends, the bookings, the referee and the attendance, published and read 5 September 2026 at 23:58 BST. Phil Parkinson's post-match reaction, Wrexham AFC, read 6 September 2026 at 00:05 BST and quoted verbatim. Possession, shots, shots in the box, corners, fouls, saves, cards, the timeline and the ratings: API-Football, the single provider for every number on this page, read 6 September 2026 at 10:07 BST. Standings and form: API-Football, refreshed 6 September 2026 at 08:15 BST after the full Saturday programme. The 11-match head-to-head frame behind Parkinson's line about last year: the EFL's own Opta pre-match stat pack of 4 September 2026, read 5 September 2026 at 10:21 BST. Vitor Matos post-match reaction added by the evening-results pass at 00:06 BST on 6 September 2026, from Swansea City's own article "VITOR MATOS | WE KEPT GOING RIGHT UNTIL THE END", read at 23:58 BST on 5 September 2026, with the conditions line from the Sky Sports report. The earlier version of this report said Swansea City had published no manager reaction; the club had in fact posted it about 50 minutes before that file, and the line has been replaced by the quotes themselves. Josh Key quoted verbatim from Swansea City's own interview, published on the morning of 6 September 2026 and read at 18:49 BST. Callum O'Hare quoted verbatim from Wrexham's own interview, published about 00:50 BST on 6 September and read at 18:50 BST.

How we verified this
- score 0-0 and the goalless timeline match both club reports; no goals and no red cards
- the scorers field is omitted rather than filed with an empty object or empty strings, because nobody scored and an empty scorers block renders as a blank goal line on the card
- booking clock: Wrexham's club report times Stephen Welsh's yellow at 89 and API-Football at 88. The structured data and the prose both use 88, because the page follows one clock, the provider blob that draws the timeline. Opoku on 67 and Cabango on 77 agree across both
- referee Elliot Bell and attendance 20,056 are confirmed by two club primaries agreeing, Swansea City and Wrexham AFC, so neither needed a third source
- API-Football served no expected goals and no pass accuracy for fixture 1563140 at filing; neither figure is printed and the poller re-enriches. Possession, shots, shots in the box, corners, fouls, saves, cards and ratings all came through
- the writer recorded at 00:05 BST that Swansea City had published no manager reaction. That was wrong: swanseacity.com posted Vitor Matos at about 23:08 BST, before this piece was filed. The evening-results pass found it, removed the no-reaction sentence and folded the quote in at 00:06. The editor re-read the club page at 00:12 and confirmed the quotes verbatim
- Wrexham AFC's Parkinson article says Parkinson "made five changes to the starting line-up", and Sky Sports independently has Swansea three and Wrexham five. The prose describes the changes rather than counting them.
- Parkinson's line about last year is tied to the December 2025 meeting at the Swansea.com Stadium, which the API-Football head-to-head record and the EFL's Opta stat pack both carry as Swansea City 2-1 Wrexham, the one Swansea win in the last 11 league meetings. No older result is asserted
- the two provider numbers woven into the prose are the shots, eight to six, and the shots inside the box, six to three, both API-Football, the same provider as the panel. Possession and saves appear in the closing section from the same blob
- standfirst opens on the shot-count inversion in a shape used by no other live standfirst on this fixture: the preview record's standfirst on this same slug opens on Wrexham's departures and the goals-conceded line, which is why that line was moved to the closing section here
- the tv field is not carried over from the preview record: the broadcast is over and the fixture gate asks for a live listing primary before that field is filled
- Matos reaction folded in by the evening-results pass, 00:06 BST 6 September 2026, from swanseacity.com; the earlier no-reaction line removed as wrong
- headline added 2026-09-06T01:30:57+01:00 by the editor from the filed standfirst and scorers; the full-time filing had dropped the field
- the gap to Millwall is three days, as Wrexham AFC's own Parkinson article states it in its own words, Parkinson himself naming only the Wednesday and the Saturday, not five as filed and not four
- Wrexham AFC's own spellings carried into the XI line, Kabore and Ekomie with their accents, so the XI and the ratings panel no longer print the same player two ways
- the Vitor Matos line to Sky Sports is about the pitch, which is what he was asked about and what the quote goes on to describe, not the weather
- Josh Key added by the reactions pass, 6 September 2026, from swanseacity.com's own interview published that morning; every line read on the rendered page and quoted verbatim; the club sets curly apostrophes and this record uses straight ones, so the characters differ and no word does
- the closing section said a second away clean sheet in five days, which the correction of 6 September had already put right in the standfirst and nowhere else. Millwall was the Wednesday and this the Saturday, so both now read three days and the page carries one number
- REVIEW DESK, 6 September 2026: the Josh Key interview was quoted on the page with no URL in the source note, and a Wrexham player reaction (Callum O'Hare, published about 00:50 BST) was live nine hours before the reactions pass recorded that none existed. Both are now on the page and in the note.
- league position and the Birmingham City figures re-read from the standings store at 07:29 on 7 September 2026, after Sunday's round moved both
