How we work

Every story on this site is sourced from the organisation it is about, or from the public record: club statements and match reports, force and service press offices, court listings, Senedd papers, the Met Office, National Rail. If a fact has no primary source behind it, it does not run.

Other outlets are a tip-off, never a source. Seeing something elsewhere sends the desk to find the original; it is not itself grounds to publish. An empty page is better than a borrowed one.

We find a third and settle it. A contradiction is the desk's problem to resolve, not something to hand a reader as an open question.

Every source is dated before it is counted, and we check that two sources are describing the same thing before we treat them as agreeing. Where a club's own site is the primary and renders in the browser, we read the rendered page rather than settling for a cached summary of it.

One named provider per surface, named on the page. We do not mix providers within an article or a match centre: two feeds counting the same match differently produce numbers that cannot be reconciled, and a reader has no way to tell which they are looking at.

Where a feed does not carry something, we say so rather than estimate it. If a shot map has no coordinates behind it, we publish zone counts and label them as zone counts.

Priority runs desk-rendered card, then an allowlisted photograph that genuinely matches the story, then a Commons-licensed photograph of the named person or place with its licence and attribution carried in the caption. Where none of those exist, the story runs without a photograph.

Never stock passed off as ours, never a commercial watermark, never AI-generated imagery, and never a fabricated likeness of a real person. Custody images only after conviction, only from the force's own release, and credited to the force.

Club crests are self-hosted from the clubs' own artwork and checked by eye, badge by badge, before they can appear on a card.

A wrong fact gets fixed in the piece and dated at the bottom of it. We do not quietly patch and move on, and we do not take a piece down to make an error disappear.

If we have something wrong, tell the desk. Corrections come first, ahead of whatever else is running that day.

Court reporting follows contempt and anonymity law, and runs a harm check before publication. We do not identify anyone entitled to anonymity, and we do not report an active matter in a way that risks prejudicing it.

Every court piece is read by a person before it is published.

Tips are read by a person. Tell us what you saw, where, and when, and how we can check it. We do not pay for stories, and we do not name sources.

Editorial and advertising stay separate. Where a place file is sponsored it is labelled as sponsored, on the file itself, so a reader never has to work out which is which.
