A489 closed both ways between Newtown and the A470 after a crash

The A489 is shut in both directions between Newtown and the A470 interchange after a collision, with a diversion in place. Traffic Wales lists the closure as an incident that began today and is due to end today, though it gives no reopening time. Anyone driving between Newtown and the A470 this afternoon should expect to be sent the long way round.
It is the only unplanned closure on the Traffic Wales board. The other seven live alerts are all scheduled: resurfacing at the Albion Footbridge in Pontypridd, overnight slip road work at Taff's Well, lane closures and a speed restriction between Resolven and Aberdulais on the A465, the bridge works between Abergavenny and Raglan, and a road closure in Aberaeron tomorrow afternoon for a fair.
Conditions today
A Met Office yellow thunderstorm warning covers the whole of Wales until 23:59 tonight, listing spray and standing water among the hazards for drivers, along with hail and frequent lightning. Traffic Wales has not said what caused the collision on the A489, and Dyfed-Powys Police has not issued a statement about it.
