A new educational experience marking 60 years since the Aberfan disaster opens to the public on 14 October, with bookings through Merthyr Tydfil’s Orbit Business Centre. The council says the project combines recorded testimony, immersive digital technology and resources linked to the Curriculum for Wales. It is intended for young people, families and visitors, with material exploring the disaster’s impact and the community’s response.

Learning for a new generation

The project commemorates the events of 21 October 1966 and considers themes including wellbeing, citizenship, social responsibility and community resilience. The council says its educational materials are designed to support schools across Wales. This is a new learning project announced on 14 October, separate from the anniversary museum displays and remembrance events already reported by Cover. The council describes the experience as a way to preserve the history and help new generations understand it.
