Traffic management on St Catherine’s Street in Carmarthen will remain in place until 21 December 2026, Carmarthenshire Council has announced. The extension is linked to work on Atriwm, the redevelopment of the former Debenhams building in the town centre. The council says the arrangements are needed to allow construction to continue ahead of an opening expected early in 2027.

What the announcement means

The notice gives a new end date for the traffic arrangements. It does not specify a full road closure, diversion route, daily operating hours or changes to pedestrian access. Travellers should check the council’s current notices before planning access to St Catherine’s Street. Atriwm is a council-led project with Hywel Dda University Health Board and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. It is intended to bring healthcare, education, public services and leisure into the former store. The opening remains a forward plan, rather than a confirmed date.
