Carmarthenshire Trading Standards is warning residents against buying fireworks from untraceable sellers, including informal social-media accounts and other unofficial channels. The council is urging shoppers to use registered, reputable retailers. It says fireworks from illegitimate sellers may have been badly stored, damaged or incorrectly labelled, creating a risk of injury, fire or property damage.

What buyers are being asked to check

The advice is to look for proper packaging and clear safety instructions, and avoid fireworks that appear damaged or have no safety labelling. Trading Standards also warns that buyers may have little recourse if an untraceable seller supplies an unsafe or defective product. The notice does not identify a particular seller, product recall or seizure.

Reporting concerns

Residents concerned about suspected illegal fireworks sales can contact the Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133, the council says. The warning comes ahead of the fireworks season. The council also encourages people to consider attending an organised display.
