Clayton joins Price in expanded Grand Slam field after Swiss win

Jonny Clayton has secured his place alongside Gerwyn Price at November’s Grand Slam of Darts after winning the Swiss Darts Trophy. The PDC confirmed his qualification on Monday 12 October, setting up an eighth appearance in an expanded 48-player field. The tournament runs from 14 to 22 November at WV Active Aldersley in Wolverhampton, with £1 million in prize money. Price was already qualified through the televised-finalist route; Clayton is the newly confirmed Welsh entrant.

A place secured, with a quarter-final ceiling to break
Clayton’s Basel title was his first ranking title of 2026. The PDC puts his tournament average at 102.70, across wins over Maik Kuivenhoven, Rob Cross, Karel Sedlacek, Gian van Veen and Luke Humphries. The completed tournament record gives the route as 6–1, 6–4, 6–2, 7–4 and 8–4 respectively. His final winning margin was four legs, compared with three in the semi-final. Wolverhampton presents a different target. Clayton has made seven previous Grand Slam appearances but has never progressed beyond the quarter-finals, according to the PDC. Qualification removes the need to win his place in the November qualifier; going further than that last-eight ceiling would be new ground for him at this event.
How the remaining places will be filled
Lisa Ashton also secured a place after finishing runner-up in the Women’s Series order of merit. Leader Beau Greaves was already qualified, so Ashton takes that route’s place. The Tour Card Holder qualifier takes place in Leicester on Friday 6 November. At least eight places will be available, with more allocated if fewer than 40 players have qualified through the preceding routes. The eventual field will total 48. Clayton’s confirmation is a place in that field, rather than a draw against a named opponent. The PDC announcement does not supply his opening match.
