Gorseinon’s proposed 30-bed move: questions session on 1 October

Residents can question plans to permanently transfer 30 inpatient beds from Gorseinon Hospital to Singleton Hospital at an online session on Thursday 1 October. Swansea Bay University Health Board is consulting on making the temporary move permanent.

What is being proposed?

The board says the change would improve inpatient care, support staff and make better use of its workforce. It also wants to develop Gorseinon as a community health hub and is asking which services people would like provided there.

Those are the board’s stated aims, not independently measured outcomes of a permanent transfer. The consultation is about the future location of the inpatient beds and Gorseinon’s community role; it does not announce the hospital’s closure.

How to take part

Thursday’s online question-and-answer session runs from 9.30am to 11am. A second online session is scheduled for Monday 12 October, from 6pm to 7.30pm. Places can be booked by emailing SBU.engagement@wales.nhs.uk or calling 01639 683355.

The engagement period runs until Monday 26 October. Responses can be submitted through the form linked on the health board’s consultation page, by email to the same address, or by telephone. Written responses can be sent to Chief Executive, Swansea Bay UHB, One Talbot Gateway, Baglan, SA12 7BR.
