Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking more volunteers to support people receiving palliative and end-of-life care in Carmarthen, Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth. Its recruitment appeal was published on 15 October.

What volunteers do

The service, established in 2025, offers companionship, listening and emotional, pastoral and practical support to patients and families. It complements the work of clinical teams. Volunteers may share conversations, support activities or provide a reassuring presence when relatives cannot be there.

Where the service already works

The board says volunteers currently help at Tŷ Bryngwyn Hospice and Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli, Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest and Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen. These existing locations differ from the three towns named in the latest recruitment appeal.

How to ask about joining

People interested in the role can contact the board’s Future Workforce team at HDD.FutureWorkforceTeam@wales.nhs.uk. The notice does not specify a closing date, minimum time commitment or full training arrangements, so ask the team for those details before applying.
