Kenny’s quarter-final exit ends Welsh World Championship qualifier challenge

Nick Kenny went furthest of the eleven Welsh entrants in Monday’s UK and Ireland World Championship qualifier, reaching the quarter-finals before a 7–3 defeat to Mervyn King. Kenny was the last Welsh player left at Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan. He won four matches, including successive deciding-leg contests, but his run ended before the final stages that decided the qualifying place.

Two close wins take Kenny into the last eight

Kenny began with a 6–4 win over Jenson Walker and beat Gary Blades 6–2 in the next round. He then edged Jamie Kay 6–5 in the last 32 and Ashley Coleman by the same score in the last 16. The quarter-final against King was played over the longer best-of-13 format. Kenny won three legs before King reached the seven needed to advance. Across his five matches Kenny won 27 legs and lost 23, calculated from the PDC’s recorded scores.

Burnett and Thomas reach the last 32

Richie Burnett beat Steve Day 6–0 and James Beeton 6–4 before losing 6–3 to Gary Jackson. Keenan Thomas defeated Jose van Angeles 6–1 and Cam Crabtree 6–4, then went out 6–5 to Greg Ritchie. Martin Thomas, Declan Coles and Mike Warburton each won their opening match before last-64 defeats. Callum Goffin, Jose van Angeles, Kevin Lane, Shaun Devonald and Rhys Griffin exited in the last 128. Every Welsh entrant’s path is listed in the results panel.

Wilson wins the qualifying place

Carl Wilson beat Shane McGuirk 7–4 in the final. The Professional Darts Players Association’s event notice states that the winner qualifies for the World Championship. The PDC tournament record supplies the draw and scores but not three-dart averages, 180 totals, checkout rates or high checkouts. Those measures are therefore omitted rather than estimated. The result ends the Welsh challenge in this qualifier; it does not establish each player’s position through other World Championship qualification routes.
