Bridgend planning officers have proposed a special December meeting to consider a waterfront scheme for up to 980 homes in Porthcawl. Their report to the 15 October Development Control Committee recommends Wednesday 9 December, following a committee site visit on Wednesday 2 December. It describes both dates as provisional and asks councillors to agree the arrangements.

What the application covers

Application P/26/140/HYB, submitted by the Welsh Government and Bridgend County Borough Council, covers land at Sandy Bay, the former fairground, Eastern Promenade, Salt Lake and the harbour. It seeks detailed permission for a spine road from Eastern Promenade to Sandy Bay, alongside outline permission for the wider mixed-use development. The proposals include about 20 hectares of open space and 2.2 hectares safeguarded for education. Retail, a hotel, a lido and gym space form part of the commercial and leisure element.

A proposed timetable, not planning approval

Officers cite the scale of the scheme and public interest as reasons for a special meeting. They also recommend extending speaking rights to a maximum of six minutes. The published paper sets out recommendations, not a decision granting permission. At the time of checking, the council’s meeting list had not published minutes for 15 October or listed the proposed December session. The date therefore remains a proposal in this report. The application and its arrangements can be followed through the council’s committee pages.
