Powys to contact 661 households about possible unclaimed benefits

Powys County Council is writing to around 661 households that it believes could be missing out on Attendance Allowance or Pension Credit, asking residents to check whether they qualify. Letters will go out over the next few weeks. The council says its Money Advice Team can check possible entitlement and help with applications, with support available by phone, at a council office, in the community or at home.

A letter is a prompt to check
The figure refers to households identified by the council as potentially eligible. It does not mean that 661 claims have been approved, or that every recipient will receive a payment. Deputy leader Matthew Dorrance is urging anyone who receives a letter to respond. The announcement does not give a total value of possible unclaimed support, a guaranteed award or a payment date.
How to contact the council
Council tenants can speak to Financial Support Officers on 01597 827464. Other Powys households can contact the Money Advice Team on 01597 826618. Both numbers are listed on the council’s own service pages as well as the announcement. Advice is free and confidential. Residents do not need to wait for a letter to ask the council for help checking benefits or completing an application.
