Powys board to decide whether to consult on hospital changes

Proposals would keep services at every community hospital site while concentrating inpatient beds on fewer sites.

Powys Teaching Health Board will decide on 16 September whether to consult the public on proposals that would concentrate community hospital inpatient beds on fewer sites. No service changes have been approved.

The Better Together options retain some services at every community hospital site in Powys. They envisage stronger care at home and in communities, reducing the need for inpatient beds as those improvements are achieved. The programme also covers adult mental health.

Proposals also include urgent care centres open from 8am to 8pm every day, offering more assessment, treatment and diagnostic services than current minor injury units.

If the board agrees, consultation would run from 5 October 2026 to 10 January 2027. Feedback, alternatives and new evidence would be considered before a final decision. A recommendation following consultation is currently planned for spring 2027.

The meeting runs from 1pm to 4pm, with public viewing by livestream and a recording available afterwards.
