RCT seeks part-time foster carers for short breaks and emergencies

The council says it has improved its support package for carers who cannot commit full-time. Its announcement does not set out the new payment rates.

Christine Jones ·

People in Rhondda Cynon Taf who can offer a child occasional overnight care, a weekend or help during an emergency are being invited to consider becoming support foster carers. The council says it has improved the financial and support package for the role, aimed at people who have the skills to foster but cannot provide a full-time home. It has not published the new rates or a before-and-after payment comparison in its announcement.

Who the care is for

Support carers can give existing foster and adoptive families regular breaks, help when another carer needs to attend training, or step in during a medical emergency. The service also supports some families whose children have disabilities or are at risk of entering care. This is a fostering role, not a casual babysitting arrangement. The council invites prospective carers to discuss what they can offer and the process with Foster Wales RCT; the release does not promise that any particular working pattern will be suitable.
