National Grid Electricity Distribution listed 4,022 properties without power across 35 incidents in its South Wales region at 2.07pm on Friday 23 October. The operator’s regional table also recorded 1,370 Priority Services customers affected. These are the figures at that update, rather than a live total or a prediction of how many properties will remain off supply.

A South Wales snapshot
The count covers National Grid’s South Wales distribution region. It is not a total for the whole of Wales. The same table listed 22,952 properties without power across National Grid’s four regions. The table does not establish that every incident was caused by Storm Austen, and the regional figures do not give a single restoration time.
Check the latest local information
In its Friday morning storm statement, National Grid said engineers were working across affected areas to repair damage and restore supplies. The operator directs customers to its live power-cut map for local outage information. National Grid says to stay well clear of fallen power lines, damaged poles or other damaged electrical equipment and call 105. Power cuts can also be reported through its online tracker. The free Priority Services Register offers additional support during power cuts. Check the operator’s current information for an individual address; restoration estimates and the number affected can change.
