Deadline day: the window shuts at 11pm, and only Swansea have moved

The summer window shuts at 11pm tonight in both the Premier League and the EFL, and only one of the four Welsh league clubs has moved today. Swansea City have signed Tom Iorpenda from Huddersfield Town on a three-year deal, given him the 16 shirt, and say the midfielder is in contention to face Watford at the Swansea.com Stadium tonight. Leo Walta has gone the other way, on loan to Los Angeles FC until January 2027 with an option to buy.

Cardiff City have posted nothing new. The club confirmed Axel Donczew's move to Arsenal this morning, which is an exit rather than an answer, and Cardiff City go to Loftus Road tomorrow with the summer four of Bielik, Scanlon, Moylan and Trott. Cardiff City sit 13th in the Championship on three draws from three.

Wrexham are the club with the most to do and the least time. Wrexham are 20th on two points, have not won a league game, and have lost three centre-backs this summer without signing one. Sky's Anthony Joseph reports Joe Worrall at the Racecourse for two million pounds from Burnley with a medical yesterday, and the BBC report a bid for Sheffield United's Callum O'Hare, whose manager Chris Wilder says Wrexham are "blanket bombing" the position. Neither Wrexham nor the EFL has posted either move, so Cover is not calling either one done.

Newport County have been the busiest and are the calmest. Eleven players have arrived this summer, the last being Matt Dibley-Dias on loan from Fulham on 26 August, and manager Mullins has told the BBC that no outgoings are planned and a wide player is the one gap left. Newport County are 11th in League Two and go to Salford tonight.

Cardiff City have signed four players this summer: Bielik, Scanlon, Moylan and Trott. Newport County have signed eleven, the last of those Matt Dibley-Dias. Those are the clubs’ own counts, and they are the ones worth having. A signing made before 11pm can be in a squad within hours, as Swansea City have shown with Iorpenda. Anything Wrexham complete after the whistle at Millwall on Wednesday will have missed the window by two days.
