The window has shut: Wrexham signed two and lost five, Cardiff City signed nobody

The summer window shut at 11pm in both the Premier League and the EFL. Wrexham did the most of the four Welsh clubs and did it in both directions, signing the defender Joe Worrall from Burnley and the midfielder Callum O'Hare from Sheffield United for fees the club calls undisclosed, and losing five: Conor Coady and Elliot Lee to mutual terminations, the promotion winner Dan Scarr to Salford City and Harry Ashfield to Peterborough United permanently, and Alex Moore to Colwyn Bay on loan. Swansea City signed Tom Iorpenda from Huddersfield Town, sent Leo Walta to Los Angeles FC and Florian Bianchini to Clermont on loan, and beat Watford 2-0. Newport County took the winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa on loan from Cardiff City in the closing hour. Cardiff City signed nobody and lost two.

Cardiff City's deadline day ran one way. Tanatswa Nyakuhwa, a 20-year-old winger with nine first team appearances, joined Newport County on loan for the season, a move both clubs posted. The academy graduate Eli King then left permanently for Gillingham for an undisclosed fee, subject to international clearance, after 10 competitive appearances and loans at Crewe Alexandra, Morecambe, Ross County and Stevenage. Cardiff City had already confirmed Axel Donczew's move to Arsenal. Nobody came in. Cardiff City sit 13th in the Championship on three draws from three, with the summer four of Bielik, Scanlon, Moylan and Trott.

Wrexham had the most to do and did the most. Joe Worrall signed in the morning from Burnley, a centre half promoted out of this division twice, and Callum O'Hare followed from Sheffield United on a three-year deal with an option for a further year, as Phil Parkinson's seventh summer signing. Chris Wilder had said Wrexham were "blanket bombing" the position. Wrexham got the player. Five went the other way. Conor Coady left by mutual termination on Sunday. Dan Scarr, who helped win a third consecutive promotion in his first season and made 44 appearances in two years, joined Salford City. Elliot Lee followed after 152 appearances, 41 goals and three promotions. Harry Ashfield, a lifelong Wrexham fan at the club since 2015, joined Peterborough United, and Alex Moore went to Colwyn Bay on loan. Wrexham are 20th on two points and have conceded four in three. Sky reported talks over Leicester City's Harry Souttar, which Wrexham never posted, so it is not a move Cover is calling done.

Newport County have been the busiest and finished by filling the gap Hayden Mullins had named. Hayden Mullins told the BBC that no outgoings were planned and a wide player was the one thing missing; Newport County signed the winger Tanatswa Nyakuhwa on loan from Cardiff City in the last hour of the window. He is the twelfth arrival of the summer, after Matt Dibley-Dias on loan from Fulham on 26 August. Newport County are 11th in League Two and were at Salford tonight.

Two moves finished the window reported and never confirmed. Sky reported talks over Leicester City's Harry Souttar at Wrexham. The BBC reported a season-long loan taking the 17-year-old Jeremy Monga to Swansea City from Manchester City, and Swansea City have still posted nothing. Cover has carried the Monga report and labelled it as one throughout, because a report is not an announcement and the window closing does not turn it into one.

Counting a summer is harder than it looks, and the clubs' own numbers are the ones that hold. Cardiff City have signed four players: Bielik, Scanlon, Moylan and Trott. Newport County have signed eleven, the last being Dibley-Dias. Wrexham call Worrall the sixth. Swansea City have not given a figure. A signing made before 23:00 can be in a squad within hours, as Swansea City have shown with Iorpenda, and anything agreed after the deadline has missed the window whatever is announced later.
