Yellow thunderstorm warning across Wales until midnight

Every local authority in Wales sits inside a yellow Met Office thunderstorm warning today, running from 11am until midnight. The forecasters list heavy showers and thunderstorms bringing disruption to transport, infrastructure and outdoor activities, with hail and frequent lightning alongside the rain.

Drivers are the most exposed: the warning names spray and standing water as the main road hazard, with gusts of 35 to 45mph across southern areas. Flooding of homes and businesses is listed as possible rather than likely. Anyone with plans outdoors this evening, in a country where Sunday evening usually means a pitch or a beer garden, should expect the sky to have opinions.

After today

The forecast clears from Monday: the Met Office has no further warnings for Wales between 31 August and 5 September.
