First Minister to hold wildfire summit on Thursday

First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth will convene a Wales Climate Change and Resilience Summit on Thursday morning, 22 October, following the wildfires that affected Wales in July and August. The Welsh Government says the meeting will focus on preventing future fires and improving collaboration and response plans. Fire services, police, local government, farmers and climate organisations are among those due to take part.
Decisions to follow the meeting
Representatives from the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction and the UK Climate Change Committee are also expected to participate. Ahead of the summit, ap Iorwerth said Wales needed to learn from the summer’s fires and work collectively to reduce future risks. A ministerial statement setting out next steps is promised after the summit. The advance announcement does not set out a new funding allocation or agreed programme of measures.

Where this sits
An advance summit announcement names participants and aims; it does not establish that measures have already been agreed.
A ministerial statement after the meeting is the next decision point, distinct from the meeting arrangements.
