Familiar opponents

All three are familiar foes. Denmark and Iceland were in Cymru's group in the inaugural 2023/24 edition and Italy and Denmark in 2025, so Cymru face Denmark in a third Nations League in succession. Cymru have not beaten any of the three in those meetings, according to the FAW. The rankings show the size of the task. Denmark have moved into the world's top ten, Italy are 14th and Iceland 16th. Cymru are 31st, after a record run of ten games unbeaten.

How Cymru got here

Cymru won promotion to League A by finishing top of Group B1 in the first phase of World Cup qualifying, unbeaten, ahead of Czechia, Albania and Montenegro. "I'm looking forward to being back in League A and testing ourselves against top nations," Wilkinson said after the draw.

Norway first

The immediate focus is the World Cup Round 2 play-off against Norway next month. The second leg is at Cardiff City Stadium on 4 December. Italy face Finland and Iceland face Portugal in separate play-offs, while Denmark have already qualified for next summer's World Cup.
