Demolition contract awarded for 58-home Wrexham redevelopment

Wrexham Council has awarded Garvey Demolition the contract to clear Springfield in Rhosddu for a proposed 58-home social housing redevelopment. The authority says demolition is scheduled to begin this autumn.

All Springfield contract holders have been rehoused in what the council describes as suitable homes elsewhere in the county borough. The release does not state how many households moved, when the relocations were completed or how long demolition is expected to take.

The homes are still subject to approval

The proposal includes 58 homes in a mix of property types intended to respond to needs recorded on the housing waiting list. An initial public consultation has ended, but planning permission and other approvals have not yet been secured.

The council says the Cunliffe Centre will remain in place during this phase. It has promised to contact the centre and nearby residents before demolition work begins.

What happens next

Demolition is the first phase. The council must next seek planning permission, secure the other necessary approvals and consider the consultation responses. A separate contractor would then be appointed for construction. No build start date, completion date or project cost has been published.

Councillor Terry Evans, the lead member for housing, said demolition would prepare the site for homes designed around the borough's housing needs. The 58-home figure remains a proposal until the planning process is complete.
