Ysgol Cambrian nears completion, with opening date still to come

Construction of Ysgol Cambrian in Clydach Vale is entering its final stages, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council says, but families are still waiting for the confirmed opening arrangements. The new school for pupils aged three to 19 with additional learning needs is expected to open this autumn.

What is ready, and what remains

The council says upper-floor rooms are receiving finishing touches, while ground-floor work continues on specialist facilities and the hydrotherapy pool. Completed areas are being cleaned ahead of staff and pupils moving in. The building will have 23 classrooms and a wellbeing centre.

Construction must still be completed, the pool commissioned and specialist equipment installed. Outside, work includes drainage, retaining walls, roof-terrace paving and canopies. The update follows a site visit on 24 September; it is not an announcement that the school has opened.

Why the extra provision matters

Ysgol Cambrian will be the borough’s fifth ALN school. The council says rising learner numbers, more complex needs and pressure on the four existing schools prompted the investment.

An adjacent small sports pitch has already been resurfaced, with renewed fencing and a footpath. Pupils will be able to use it during the day, while Cambrian Village Trust will manage community use in the evenings and at weekends. The council says it will communicate the school’s opening arrangements once they are finalised.
