In its retirement announcement, the club credits Root with 67 first-class appearances, more than 70 white-ball games and almost 5,000 runs for Glamorgan. Those figures cover his time with the county, rather than his whole professional career. His Glamorgan record includes seven centuries and a double hundred.
Root received his county cap in 2021. Glamorgan also highlighted his batting contribution to the 2024 One-Day Cup final win and his role across its two successful one-day campaigns.
Wallace pays tribute
Director of cricket Mark Wallace praised Root’s professionalism and consistency, saying: “We thank Billy for everything he has given to the Club and wish him the very best for the future.”
The announcement follows Colin Ingram’s retirement, confirmed by Glamorgan on 22 September.
