Blaenavon mural brings Flower Park history to Broad Street

Residents can watch the artwork take shape outside Botanic Possessions as a new two-borough trail develops.

A community mural celebrating Blaenavon’s floral history is being painted outside Botanic Possessions on Broad Street. Members of the public can stop to watch artist Danielle Harrington at work, with workshops planned for local groups.

The design takes inspiration from Blaenavon Flower Park, which opened in 1921 with public donations. Torfaen Council says the new work is funded jointly by the business owner and the council.

A growing trail

The mural will join The Light We Carry, a public-art trail across Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent. A second Blaenavon mural is planned for the Castle Hotel. Two new murals are already in Pontypool Indoor Market, with another planned for Clarence Street.

The artwork is part of a wider town-centre programme that also includes Towns Together clean-ups. Pontypool’s event is on 25 and 26 September. Workshop dates for the Broad Street mural are not given in the announcement; residents can ask Botanic Possessions for details.
