Pontypool clean-up: where to join Saturday’s action day

Volunteers can meet outside the Indoor Market from 9am, with work planned across four town-centre streets.

Pontypool residents can join a town-centre clean-up on Saturday 26 September, with volunteers meeting council staff outside the Lower Crane Street entrance to the Indoor Market between 9am and 1pm.

Where the work is happening

The Towns Together action day covers Crane Street, The Link, Commercial Street and George Street. Volunteers, businesses and community groups will help weed, sweep, collect litter and clean street furniture alongside council teams. Businesses are also being encouraged to tidy shop fronts.

Council crews are due to deep-clean three bus shelters and replace ageing bins. From 11am, young people will work on a mural on the hoardings outside St James’ Church on Hanbury Road.

What comes next

Four planters have already been installed, with six more due over the coming weeks. Local groups and businesses will help care for them. The council says a further Towns Together event is planned for Blaenavon in November and is inviting suggestions for which street should be tackled.
