A new family-run café, The Little Duck Café, has opened at Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, Torfaen council said on 27 October. It is run by Ashleigh Yates and Slawek Brudecki, who live in Blaenavon and opened the doors last week. The menu covers breakfast and lunch options, including Sunday dinners, plus hot drinks and sweet treats. The café has an open kitchen and views of the World Heritage site.

Opening hours

The café is open from 9.15am to 3.30pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Who is behind it

It is the first time the couple have run a business together, although Mr Brudecki has been a professional chef for 10 years. The name comes from the family. Their young daughter struggles to say the surname Brudecki and says "rubber ducky" instead, according to the council. Ms Yates said opening the café was "a dream come true" and that they hoped it would become "a special part of the local community".

The council's view

Councillor Joanne Gauden, Torfaen's executive member for economy, skills and regeneration, said it was "fantastic to see a local couple launching a new business at the World Heritage Centre" and wished the owners every success.
