Ysgol Bro Caereinion moves all Year 7 teaching into Welsh

An open evening on 29 September will explain the school’s phased transition and support for pupils new to Welsh.

All Year 7 pupils at Ysgol Bro Caereinion are now being taught the curriculum through Welsh, Powys Council says. The September change is a stage in the school’s phased move from dual-stream to Welsh-medium education, rather than a claim that every year group changed at once.

Support for pupils new to Welsh

The school has introduced specialist late-immersion provision for Year 7 learners who are new to Welsh or did not attend a Welsh-medium primary. The council says staff language training and recruitment have supported the transition.

Open evening and application dates

Parents can attend an open evening at 6pm on Tuesday 29 September in the Leisure Centre Hall. A presentation will be followed by a school tour and opportunities to speak to pupils and staff.

The council gives 30 October 2026 as the secondary-school application deadline and 15 January 2027 for primary places. Families considering the school can use the open evening to ask how the language support would work for their child.
