Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet has agreed to move Ysgol Heol Goffa to a new site and increase its capacity to 150. The decision was taken at its meeting on Monday 2 November 2026.

What happens next

The decision is subject to a statutory notice period of 28 days, due to begin on Tuesday 17 November 2026. The council says this gives parents, teachers, governors and the wider school community a further opportunity to have their say. Cllr Glynog Davies, the Cabinet Member for Education, said the next step is to proceed to statutory notice and, if that is agreed at Full Council, move forward with the school’s new future.

Who the places are for

The new school will increase provision for pupils with severe learning difficulties and profound multiple learning difficulties in the Llanelli area. The council says additional work is already under way to meet demand from pupils with autism spectrum disorder by alternative means. The decision follows an earlier Cabinet decision to develop a new school, an independent review of specialist education in Llanelli and a formal consultation.
