Bronglais’s Dyfi Ward restricts visiting after C. difficile outbreak

Visiting to Bronglais Hospital’s Dyfi Ward is being restricted following an outbreak of Clostridioides difficile, also known as C. difficile or C.diff. Hywel Dda University Health Board says the restrictions began on Wednesday 21 October. The ward is closed to new admissions and affected patients are being isolated. The board says the closure will allow review and cleaning arrangements to be carried out.
The scope of the restriction
The announcement concerns Dyfi Ward. It does not say that the whole hospital is closed or that visiting has stopped on every ward. The board asks people not to visit hospital patients if they are feeling unwell, to limit the spread of infection. Its notice does not give a reopening date, a patient case count or detailed visiting exceptions. The health board’s update remains the source for changes to these arrangements.

Where this sits
The restrictions apply to one named ward, not every hospital department.
New admissions are closed while visiting is limited; these are distinct restrictions, not a claim that every visit is prohibited.
