Free heart checks at Cwmbran Stadium on 16 September

The free walk-in checks are for people over 40 who are registered with a Welsh GP and have not been diagnosed with heart failure.

Free heart checks will be available at Cwmbran Stadium, Henllys Way, NP44 3YS, on Wednesday 16 September, from 10am to 3pm. People can walk in without an appointment.

The event is for people over 40 who are registered with a GP in Wales and have not already been diagnosed with heart failure.

A nurse will ask about health and carry out blood pressure and ECG checks. A finger-prick blood test is available if concerns or abnormalities are found. An abnormal blood result can lead to assessment by an on-site cardiologist, with advice on treatment, GP referral or further tests.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board says the check takes about 10 to 20 minutes; it has not given waiting times. Its heart failure team is working with the charity Pumping Marvellous. The board advises anyone with breathlessness, fatigue or ankle swelling to contact their GP or use the NHS 111 Wales symptom checker.
