Flint end winless start as Bonthron hits three in Cymru Premier round

Flint Town United ended their wait for a Cymru Premier win in Danny Holmes’s first match in charge, while Alex Bonthron scored a hat-trick and The New Saints kept their four-point lead in the round played on Saturday 26 September. Flint beat Ammanford 3-0, with all three goals coming after half-time. The result leaves them 13th on five points after 11 games, ahead of Trefelin, Ammanford and bottom club Holywell Town.

A first win for Holmes, a hat-trick for Bonthron

Holmes had been appointed two days before the game following Lee Fowler’s departure. Flint went ahead in the 51st minute, added another through Tunde Owolabi in the 62nd and completed the scoring through Lassana Mendes in the 73rd. It was also their first home league win of 2026. The FAW’s two records disagree on the opening goal: its written round-up describes a Chris Bell own goal, while its match centre credits Owolabi. That attribution remains unresolved. Bonthron’s treble helped Cambrian United beat Llandudno 4-3. Liam Eason opened the scoring and Bonthron’s third made it 4-0 early in the second half. Kieran Lloyd, Callum Stephens and Marc Williams brought Llandudno back within a goal, but Cambrian held on. They move above Llandudno into seventh, with 18 points to their opponents’ 16.

Saints stay clear as Penybont break their crowd record

The New Saints won 3-1 at Trefelin through Rhys Hughes, Rory Holden and Brad Young, with Jasper Jones replying for the hosts. Their tenth successive league win keeps them on 31 points, four ahead of Penybont. Second-placed Penybont recovered from a Liam Shephard own goal to beat Airbus UK Broughton 2-1. Ryan Hill equalised before Ethan Cann’s 79th-minute winner. Free admission helped draw 2,666 spectators, which the FAW reports as a club record and the fourth-highest attendance in Cymru Premier history. Connah’s Quay Nomads remain third after a 4-1 win at Barry Town United. Jordan Hodkin and Harry Franklin scored twice each before James Lester’s consolation.

Late goals change two games

Dan Roberts scored in the third minute of stoppage time as Colwyn Bay beat Haverfordwest County 1-0. Bay move fifth and have won all six home league games. Caernarfon Town recovered from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Cardiff Met. Jasper Payne and Jack Veale had put Met ahead despite Fumpa Mwandwe’s dismissal. Osian Evans scored in the 86th minute before Zack Clarke headed the equaliser eight minutes into added time. Caernarfon remain fourth on 23 points. Holywell Town are still awaiting their first win after a 1-1 draw with Briton Ferry Llansawel. Florian Yonsian put them ahead before Ferry captain Alex Gammond was sent off. Luke Bowen equalised in the 62nd minute. Holywell have two points; Ferry are 12th with nine.
