Budget settlement is an immediate priority
Jones said seeking a fair and sustainable budget settlement would be an immediate priority, alongside protecting services. He described significant financial pressure on local government and said the council would work with partners to seek the resources it needs. Those comments set out the new leader’s intentions. The announcement does not confirm a new funding settlement or an approved change to the council’s budget.
Change to the cabinet
Carl Jordan will become Cabinet Member for Streetscene, the portfolio Jones previously held. In his remarks to the chamber, Jones emphasised teamwork between councillors and officers and said that bringing people together would guide his leadership. The council’s announcement also identifies delivery of the coalition’s priorities as part of his approach.
