Pentre Awel records nearly 70,000 exercise-class attendances in first year

Group exercise classes at Canolfan Pentre Awel in Llanelli recorded 69,889 attendances during its first year, Carmarthenshire County Council says. The council published the anniversary update on 15 October.
Different measures
Public hydrotherapy sessions recorded 1,388 users. The National Exercise Referral Scheme received 535 referrals and delivered 291 group sessions and 156 supervised gym sessions. Those figures describe separate activities and should not be added into a visitor total.
What the figures do not show
The release does not establish how many different people attended classes or provide a measured change in participants’ health. The referral scheme supports people with health conditions through exercise; activity counts alone do not prove a health outcome.
A shared facility
The centre combines leisure, health, learning and business facilities. The council leads the project with Hywel Dda University Health Board, Swansea University, Cardiff University and Coleg Sir Gâr. Canolfan is the first phase of the wider Pentre Awel development.
