Powys reception applications open: apply by 15 January

Parents and carers in Powys can now apply for a reception place for September 2027. The application window opened on 1 October and closes on 15 January 2027. The council says the round covers children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. Families will receive their application outcome on 16 April 2027.

Nursery attendance does not secure a place

Families must still apply if their child attends nursery. Living in a school’s catchment area does not necessarily guarantee admission either: places are allocated under the council’s admissions arrangements and oversubscription rules. Parents can express a school preference, but an offer is not guaranteed. Applications received late may be considered after those submitted on time.

How to apply and get help

Use the council’s Applying for a School Place page to submit the form and check catchment and admissions information. Families without internet access can ask the admissions team for help on 01597 826477. A school place does not automatically bring an entitlement to free transport. The council assesses transport separately, so check those rules before making a preference.
