Price and Clayton play Monday: World Grand Prix opponents and TV guide

Both Welsh players feature in the opening session in Leicester, with Clayton fourth on and Price fifth.

Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton begin their World Grand Prix campaigns on Monday 28 September, in an opening session that starts at 6pm BST on Sky Sports. Clayton faces Krzysztof Ratajski in the fourth match; Price follows against Sebastian Bialecki in the fifth. Those are running-order positions, not fixed start times.

Two Polish opponents, two different tests

Price, the fourth seed and 2020 champion, meets a tournament debutant in Bialecki. Fifth seed Clayton faces Polish number one Ratajski. The draw puts the Welsh pair in different quarters of the same half, so they could meet in the semi-finals if both progress. The winner of Price’s opener will face Ross Smith or Cameron Menzies in round two. Clayton or Ratajski will play Wessel Nijman or Rob Cross. Both of those second-round ties are scheduled for Wednesday 30 September, with the order still to be confirmed.

Why the first double matters

Players must hit a double to start scoring in each leg as well as to finish it. The opening round is best of three sets, leaving less room to recover than round two and the quarter-finals, which are best of five. The 32-player event runs at Leicester’s Mattioli Arena until Sunday 4 October. The semi-finals are best of nine sets; the final is best of 11.

Sky Sports carries the tournament live in the UK. The PDC’s own streaming coverage excludes UK-based subscribers, so a PDCTV subscription is not a substitute for the UK broadcaster. Monday’s session has eight matches, beginning with Danny Noppert against Niko Springer.
