RCT to number public litter bins and spend £25,000 on more

New identification stickers will help residents report full, damaged or vandalised bins. The council has not yet published the locations or number of extra bins.

Public litter bins across Rhondda Cynon Taf will receive identification numbers so residents can tell the council exactly which ones need attention. A further £25,000 has been ring-fenced for additional on-street bins as part of the new Keep it TIDY RCT campaign.

How reporting will change

The council says numbered stickers will be fitted soon. Residents reporting a full, damaged or vandalised bin will be able to quote its number, helping staff locate it. No borough-wide completion date has been announced.

The stickers will also explain that public bins are for small items of litter generated while out and about. Household rubbish should go through the council’s household collection services. If a public bin is full, the campaign asks people to find another bin or take their waste home.

Extra bins, locations to follow

The £25,000 allocation comes from an additional £12m programme for priority services and local improvements in 2026/27. The 30 September announcement does not specify how many bins will be bought or where they will go.

Residents can report problems through the council’s Keep It TIDY RCT page, which links to the litter-bin, littering and fly-tipping reporting services. It also lists community litter-picking hubs where groups can borrow equipment.
