Former Wales coach Shaun Edwards joins Red Roses

Former Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards has joined the Red Roses as a coaching consultant for the remainder of the WXV Global Series.

England Rugby announced the appointment after the world champions drew 26-26 with Canada on Saturday, ending a run of 39 consecutive victories. Edwards has joined the group before England face New Zealand at Twickenham.
A familiar figure to Welsh supporters
Edwards worked with the Wales men from 2008 to 2019. During that period Wales won four Six Nations titles, including three Grand Slams, and reached two Rugby World Cup semi-finals.
He later became France defence coach in 2020 and helped France win three Six Nations titles before leaving the role in June 2026.
A short assignment
The consultancy runs only to the end of the current WXV Global Series. It is Edwards’ first position in women’s rugby and his first role with a senior England national side.
Red Roses head coach John Mitchell said Edwards’ coaching credentials and experience at the highest level would add value to the players and staff. The role places him alongside defence coach Sarah Hunter for the rest of the international window.
