Cardiff RFC fight back from 14-0 down as Ebbw Vale pull clear

Cardiff RFC recovered from 14-0 down to beat Carmarthen Quins 27-17 at Carmarthen Park in the opening round of Super Rygbi Cymru on 12 September. Matty Young scored twice as the visitors overturned a lead Quins had held for most of the match.

Lewys Millin and Ashton Owen scored Quins’ opening tries, with Madoc Evans converting both to establish the home side’s early advantage.

Cardiff had reduced the deficit to 14-12 by half-time but did not go ahead until fewer than ten minutes remained. Young’s second try put Cardiff in front, before winger Dewi Cross supplied the final try to secure the away win.

Ebbw Vale pull clear after the break

Ebbw Vale beat Swansea RFC 40-12 at Ciner Glass Community Stadium after a much closer first half. The home side led 14-12 at the interval. Ebbw Vale scored 26 unanswered points after the break.

Ieuan Morris, Morgan Rees, Ethan Phillips, Dylan Bartlett, Ewan Bowden and Dafydd Thomas scored Ebbw Vale’s six tries, with Kai Kinsey adding five conversions. Joe Thomas and Mat Protheroe crossed for Swansea, and Josh Phillips kicked a conversion. Swansea’s match report named Bartlett as man of the match.

Newport and Pontypool take home wins

Newport beat RGC 1404 34-25 at Newport Stadium, while Pontypool edged Llandovery 43-41 at Pontypool Park. Newport and Llandovery meet next at Church Bank on 19 September, with both clubs listing a 14:30 BST kick-off.
