Wales weather, Thursday 3 September: mostly dry and humid, with rain arriving in the evening

A warm and humid Thursday, with the best of the sunshine in the southeast and patchy rain reaching the north by the afternoon. Rain spread in from the northwest during the evening.

Low cloud and hill fog lifted through Thursday morning to leave Wales mostly dry, the Met Office said, with the best of the sunshine in the southeast. Cloud thickened during the afternoon and patchy rain developed in the north. The air stayed warm and humid.

Cardiff reached 22C. Swansea, Newport and Wrexham were a degree back at 21C. The Met Office had no warnings in force anywhere in Wales, and Natural Resources Wales had no flood warnings or alerts anywhere in Wales.

Rain arrived from the northwest during the evening, and the Met Office expects it to become heavy and persistent overnight. Friday starts wet before brightening from the northwest through the morning to leave a fine afternoon. Take a coat if you are out tonight.

Correction, 3 September 2026: an earlier version gave Newport and Wrexham highs of 22C. The Met Office revised both to 21C. Cardiff at 22C and Swansea at 21C are unchanged.
