Wrexham reception applications open: the deadlines parents need

Applications are open for reception places in Wrexham for September 2027, with an on-time deadline of 15 January 2027. The application window opened on Monday 21 September.

A nursery place does not automatically become a reception place at the same school. Wrexham Council says parents must submit a fresh application, even if an older child already attends.

Other deadlines come sooner

For children now in Year 6, applications for a September 2027 secondary-school place close on 31 October 2026. The earlier deadline for January funded early education is 23 October 2026, for children whose third birthday falls between 1 September and 31 December.

The next nursery application window runs from 5 January to 15 February 2027. Funded early education and a school nursery place require separate applications, so families using the earlier provision should not assume they have also applied for nursery.

How to apply

Apply through the council’s school-admissions pages. Paper forms are available by emailing admissions@wrexham.gov.uk. For reception, the council lists 16 April 2027 as offer day.

Late reception applications are considered after on-time applications. Living close to a school does not override that priority, and attending nursery there does not guarantee a place. Voluntary aided faith schools also require their own separate form, alongside the council application.

For reception applications between Wrexham, Flintshire and Denbighshire, apply to the council where you live and include the school preferences in that application. For other areas, ask the relevant admissions team for advice.
