Aimee Deacon penalty earns Swansea Women victory at Aberystwyth

Aimee Deacon scored from the penalty spot as Swansea City Women beat Aberystwyth Town 1-0 on Sunday 13 September to start their Adran Premier season with successive wins.

Deacon won the penalty after Libby Isaac brought her down inside the area shortly before half-time. She converted for her first goal of the campaign, giving Yzzy Taylor’s side a lead they protected at Park Avenue.

Swansea threatened either side of the decisive goal without finding another way through. Chloe Chivers hit the post with a first-time effort from outside the box before the break, while Caitlin Seaborne headed Lauren Davies’ corner against the bar early in the second half.

Aberystwyth also offered a warning on the counterattack. Carys Bufton advanced down the left and sent a cross towards the far post, where Sioned Kersey could not reach it to finish.

The result gave Swansea their first away victory of the season. The club’s report described limited clear chances against an organised Aberystwyth defence, with Deacon’s penalty enough to settle the match.

Taylor praises squad response

Taylor credited the whole squad for meeting Aberystwyth’s physical challenge. “It was a real squad effort,” she told the club. “We did what we needed to do and found a way to get the three points.” She also praised Deacon’s contribution to the attack and the players’ confidence in her to take the penalty.
