No crew on the Cambrian coast: the 09:34 out of Pwllheli is a bus

Six Transport for Wales routes have now lost trains to the same cause in two days, and on bank holiday Monday it is the Cambrian coast's turn. TfW has cancelled the 06:43 from Machynlleth to Pwllheli and the 09:34 coming back the other way, and says its services between the two stations are disrupted in both directions. The reason on the notice is a shortage of on-train staff.

Lloyds is running the replacements at no extra cost, one leaving Machynlleth at roughly the time the 06:43 would have gone and one leaving Pwllheli at roughly 09:34, both calling at every stop the train would have made. TfW timestamps the incident as running until 08:52, though the cancelled 09:34 out of Pwllheli departs well the other side of that.

Sunday cost the network a good deal more. Crew shortages cancelled Swansea to Llandrindod, Swansea to Carmarthen, Swansea to Milford Haven and Carmarthen to Fishguard Harbour in four separate windows, and emptied the Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog line for the whole day. The Conwy Valley is running again this morning: TfW's own departure board had the 08:38 from Blaenau Ffestiniog to Llandudno on time on platform 1 when the desk checked at 07:07.

TfW has not said how many staff are unavailable, or whether anything later on Monday goes the same way. Its live updates page reaches only two hours ahead, so a Cambrian coast passenger travelling this afternoon will learn about it around lunchtime rather than now.
