Signalling fault stops trains east of Cardiff Central

TfW warns of cancellations and delays of up to an hour, with limited replacement transport.

Trains east of Cardiff Central were blocked on Sunday morning after a signalling fault at Newport, Transport for Wales said. Services towards Ebbw Vale Town, Cheltenham Spa and Shrewsbury are affected in both directions, with cancellations and delays of up to 60 minutes.

Check before travelling

TfW’s update lists an expected incident end of noon but warns disruption could continue until 14:00. These are estimates, not a confirmed reopening time. The operator says other train companies are also affected.

Limited replacement transport

TfW has arranged a replacement bus for the 08:52 Ebbw Vale Town to Cardiff Central service, operated by Keepings International, at no extra cost. It warns that road journeys take longer and that replacement capacity is limited.

Refunds and compensation

Passengers who abandon a journey and leave the ticket unused can seek a fee-free refund from the original seller. TfW says arrivals more than 15 minutes late may qualify for Delay Repay. Check the operator’s live updates before setting out.
