Work starts in October on 50 free parking spaces for Clydach Vale

Construction of a free 50-space car park serving Cwm Clydach Country Park is due to begin on Monday 5 October, following site setup from 1 October. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council expects the main building work to take around 10 weeks.

How it will work

Cambrian Village Trust will manage the facility, which will be locked at night under arrangements matching the nearby Lakeside Café car park. Accessible pedestrian links will connect it with the country park and neighbouring sports pitch.

The council says the scheme will reduce parking along the industrial estate road. Double-yellow lines are planned towards the end of the work, once drivers can use the new car park.

During construction

Most work will take place on unused land. The council expects limited disruption, but residents behind the site may occasionally be asked to move vehicles and parking on the main road may need temporary management.

The wider scheme includes disabled parking and electric-vehicle charging bays in the existing nearby car park. Coach spaces and cycle shelters are possible later additions, not confirmed facilities opening with the first phase.

Planning permission was granted in April 2026. Horan Construction Ltd will carry out the project, funded through the Welsh Government’s Brilliant Basics Fund. No fixed opening date is given in the council’s 30 September announcement.
