TfW said trains could run through Conwy again on Thursday evening, after delays and replacement buses

Transport for Wales said the problem at Conwy had been rectified and services were able to run. Residual delays of up to 30 minutes, and possible cancellations between Holyhead and Chester, were expected for the rest of Thursday, with organised buses between Llandudno Junction and Holyhead until 23:59.

Transport for Wales had this as a problem at Conwy from 18:15. It then said the problem had been rectified and services were able to run. Cover's earlier file, from TfW, was a broken rail. TfW later called it a safety inspection of the track that had been rectified. TfW said services could be delayed by up to 30 minutes, and could be cancelled in both directions between Holyhead, the Irish ferry port on Anglesey, and Chester. Residual delays and cancellations were expected until the end of the day. End of day was TfW's estimate, not a promised clear time.

What to do

TfW organised buses between Llandudno Junction and Holyhead, provided by Llew Jones and Dilwyns, calling at all stops and in place on services until 23:59. Local Arriva buses could also be used at no extra cost: the 4 and 4A between Holyhead and Bangor, the 5 and 5D between Bangor and Llandudno Junction, the 13 between Llandudno Junction and Rhyl, the 11C and 11F between Rhyl and Flint, and the 11 between Flint and Chester. Traveline.cymru has the times. The coast road is the A55, which runs beside the railway. If one of TfW's trains is delayed or cancelled and you arrive at your destination more than 15 minutes later than scheduled, you can claim through Delay Repay, the industry compensation scheme. If you decide not to travel because of this disruption and the ticket is unused, TfW says you can get a fee-free refund from wherever you bought it.

Update, 12:50 on Friday 4 September: the Conwy entry has come off TfW's live service status page, checked at 12:50, and the replacement buses ended at 23:59 on Thursday. TfW has published no all clear. This brief has been put into the past tense.
