Glamorgan Women host Kent Women at Sophia Gardens on 13 September, one win from a final, and entry is free

Glamorgan Women will play Kent Women at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan's ground in Cardiff, on Sunday 13 September at 10:30, with a place in a national final at stake and free entry for anyone who turns up. It is a semi-final of the Metro Bank One Day Cup, the county one-day competition for women's teams, in its second division, League 2. The top four qualify, and the side finishing second hosts the side finishing third. The home semi-final was already safe before Sunday, and it stayed safe. Middlesex Women beat Glamorgan Women by 10 wickets at Radlett, in Hertfordshire, on Sunday 6 September. Losing that heavily cost Glamorgan Women top spot, because in this competition a big enough win earns the winner an extra point. It did not cost the home semi-final, which goes to whoever finishes second.

Glamorgan Women lost all ten batters for 94 runs at Radlett, ending the innings with 19 of the 50 overs unused. An over is six balls. It is a low total: the same side made 354 against Kent Women in May. Bethan Gammon top scored with 26 runs from 37 balls faced, Eve Jackson made 18 from 48, Daisy Jeanes 13 from nine, and the captain, Lauren Parfitt, 5 from 19. Middlesex Women's Saskia Horley was the most destructive bowler, dismissing four of the ten Glamorgan batters. Middlesex Women then knocked off the 95 runs required in 15 overs without losing a batter, which is the heaviest margin there is. Artemis Downer made 60 runs from 50 balls and was still batting at the end, with nine balls hit to the boundary and two hit over it; Riva Pindoria made 27 from 40.

Glamorgan Women went into the last round top of League 2 on 28 points. A win in this competition is worth four points, and a team that wins fast enough takes a bonus point on top. Middlesex Women scored at 6.66 an over against a Glamorgan Women rate of 3.03, past the bonus-point threshold of 1.25 times the other side's rate, which meant chasing 95 inside about 25 overs. Middlesex Women needed 15. So Middlesex Women took five points instead of four, reached 29 and finished first. Glamorgan Women stayed on 28 and finished second, six wins from eight. Second plays third at home. Kent Women and Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women both finished on 26 points, and the playing conditions separate teams level on points by net run rate first, so Kent's 0.760 against Northamptonshire's 0.688 put Kent third and sent Kent Women to Cardiff. Northamptonshire go to Radlett instead.

Glamorgan Women beat Kent Women by 40 runs at Beckenham on 10 May, 354 for 7 against 314. That May defeat is the only one Kent Women have suffered in the last five League 2 matches, so the side coming to Cardiff has lost to nobody else since. Kent Women arrive on the back of 272 for 8 against Leicestershire Foxes Women at Canterbury on Sunday 6 September, an 88-run win.

This is a second consecutive home semi-final at Sophia Gardens. Glamorgan Women won last year's at the same ground, beating Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women by 61 runs. Glamorgan Women then lost the League 2 final to Yorkshire Women by nine wickets, in a match shortened to 20 overs a side. The winner on 13 September goes to the final at Bristol's county cricket ground, currently named the Seat Unique Stadium, on Sunday 20 September. The ECB said in August 2025 that Glamorgan Women move from Tier 2 into Tier 1 for 2027, which would make this the last season the League 2 trophy is open to the club.

Going to the semi-final

Sophia Gardens, Cardiff, Sunday 13 September, 10:30 start. Entry is free for everyone. Tickets can be booked in advance on Glamorgan's ticket site, where General Admission is listed at £0.00 for adults and for under 17s, plus a £1 booking fee per ticket, so turning up on the day costs nothing at all. The club says free entry gives "supporters the perfect opportunity to get behind the team in a major knockout fixture". The other semi-final, Middlesex Women against Northamptonshire Steelbacks Women, starts at the same time at Radlett, so both places in the Bristol final will be known by early Sunday afternoon.
