Jamie Miller reaches UK number one with Babydoll

Welsh singer Jamie Miller has reached number one on the UK Official Singles Chart with Babydoll, moving up from second place in the weekly chart published on Friday 23 October. Official Charts says Miller is the first Welsh artist to secure a UK number-one single in 15 years. It identifies the previous Welsh chart-topper as Sian Evans, who featured on DJ Fresh’s Louder in 2011.

A 556-unit margin
The chart compiler says 556 chart units separated Babydoll from this week’s runner-up, Tate McRae’s Housewife. The dated chart for 23 to 29 October records Babydoll’s ninth week on the chart and a new peak of number one. That is a chart-unit comparison, not a count of individual listeners. The Official Singles Chart combines audio and video streams, downloads, CDs and vinyl.
Miller’s reaction
Speaking to Official Charts after learning the result, Miller said: “This is the biggest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.” The company also identifies him as the first solo male Welsh artist to top the singles chart since Shakin’ Stevens with Merry Christmas Everyone in 1985. Those historical comparisons are the compiler’s account. The weekly chart entry confirms the completed result. An older chart sidebar still visible on the news page shows the previous week and should not be confused with the dated 23 October chart.
