Llandudno becomes north Wales’ first Purple Flag destination

The accreditation covers the town’s evening economy. Conwy council says Llandudno is the third Welsh destination to receive it, after Cardiff and Swansea.

Llandudno has received Purple Flag accreditation for its evening and night-time economy, becoming the first destination in north Wales to gain the award, according to Conwy council.

What the award covers

The scheme, managed by the Association of Town and City Management, assesses how town centres combine entertainment, culture, food and leisure with safety, cleanliness and visitor experience between 5pm and 5am. Conwy says Llandudno follows Cardiff and Swansea and is the first accredited destination worldwide whose boundary includes a pier.

A council-led working group brought local businesses, public services and other organisations together for the application, supported by UK Shared Prosperity Fund money. Assessors highlighted Venue Cymru’s cultural contribution, partnership working and the volunteer Tidy Team’s work with the council’s Streetscene service.

Work continues after accreditation

The council says challenges remain and the award provides a framework for further improvements.
