80-metre knitted wartime exhibition comes to Wrexham in October
An 80-metre knitted exhibition depicting Britain during the Second World War opens at St Giles’ Church in Wrexham on 5 October. Two of its 80 panels were made by local knitters and crocheters.

The Longest Yarn 2: Britain at War includes scenes of the Battle of Britain, D-Day and everyday life on the Home Front. It follows the first Longest Yarn exhibition, which visited Wrexham last year and depicted D-Day and the battle for Normandy.
Dates, opening hours and entry
The exhibition runs from 5 to 29 October, Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 4pm. Last entry is 3.30pm. It closes between 11am and noon on Thursdays for the church’s weekly Eucharist, so visitors should plan around that break.
Entry is free. Organisers welcome a £5 donation per person to support the Longest Yarn and veterans’ charities; that is a suggested donation, not an admission charge.
Wrexham Council says volunteers from around the world researched, designed and made the knitted scenes. The exhibition is touring the UK. This is a guide to the announced visit, rather than a review of the display.
