Newtown to Craven Arms bus service starts on 2 November

The X81 will run four times each way, six days a week, with connections for onward rail journeys.

A new bus link between Newtown and Craven Arms will start on 2 November, with four journeys in each direction on six days a week. Tanat Valley Coaches will operate the X81 under a joint arrangement between Powys and Shropshire councils.

Where it will go

The service will serve Kerry, Sarn, Montgomery, Churchstoke, Chirbury, Clun and Bishop's Castle. Powys Council says it will restore bus services to Clun and connect communities with shops and other local amenities.

Onward travel and what to check

The council identifies onward connections with the 533 bus to Shrewsbury and trains from Craven Arms towards Manchester and Cardiff. These are connecting journeys, not a direct X81 service to those cities.

Students travelling from Sarn, Montgomery, Chirbury and Churchstoke to Bishop's Castle Community College are among the intended beneficiaries. The announcement does not give ticket prices or departure times. Check the published timetable and fares before planning a journey; the new service is not running yet.
