Powys changes winter gritting routes after county-wide review
Powys County Council has revised its winter gritting routes after a county-wide review, with the new arrangements due to operate this winter. Residents can check the routes and salt-bin locations on the council's online map before colder weather arrives.

How routes were chosen
The council says it assessed traffic volumes, public transport links, access to key services, schools, medical centres, emergency-service locations and wider community needs. The revised network is intended to prioritise roads used by the greatest number of people and links between communities.
Some roads will remain untreated
Not every road can receive routine treatment. The council also warns that gritting reduces risk but does not guarantee an ice-free surface, so drivers should check forecasts and current gritting information and travel according to the conditions.
Salt bins added and replenished
Additional salt bins have been installed at locations identified during the review. Existing bins have been checked and replenished as part of the council's winter preparation.
What has not changed
Precautionary gritting will continue when frost, ice or snow is forecast. The council says snow-clearance arrangements are unchanged, while its wider service still covers key pedestrian locations, salt-bin provision and emergency response during severe weather.
